One way out for Fflur Dafydd’s new sound

Fflur’s recent new found interest in the Electric guitar has resulted in a fresh re-vamped style adding a new and exciting dimension to her unique style. This is a new musical journey for Fflur Dafydd a’r Barf and as a result, Rasal is proud to announce Un Ffordd Mas, the band’s much-anticipated second album, which will be officially launched in the Quins Club, Carmarthen, on November 16th.

The album, which is timeless yet modern, compromises of a variety of energetic, passionate and memorable tracks composed by the singer-songwriter from Carmarthen. The vibrant chemistry between Fflur and y Barf is evident throughout and it is apparent that we in the company of talented musicians. There is a strong soul influence on the album and the tracks are layered with electric and acoustic instruments, combining fresh rhythmic beats with passionate and hypnotic vocals.

The personality at the helm of the album is certainly a distinctive one, the twelve tracks being brimful of black humour, surreal stories and infectious attitude. The album includes the popular single Helsinki, released on iTunes earlier this year, and also Dala Fe Nôl, as well as various brand-new tracks featuring a tongue-in-cheek ballad and tributes to real-life unusual characters. The album also contains more poignant songs, which are tender, soul-driven reflections, showing the flexibility of Dafydd’s vocal and compositional style.

2007 has proved a busy year for the band in terms of television and radio appearances, including recording a video for the S4C music programme Bandit, performing exclusive tracks on Radio Cymru’s Yr Ystafell Werdd (The Green Room) with Bethan Elfyn and recording a radio session for c2, Radio Cymru. The band have also been on tour in Wales this summer, performing at festivals as well as performing in venues in Croatia, the United States and the Netherlands. Mid-tour, the band popped into the Sonic One Studio in Llangennech to complete their album with producer Tim Hamill.

Fflur added,
“Recording while we were still on tour was essential,” Fflur insists. “We had an idea of the kind of live-sound we wanted to create, and it would only have been possible while we were playing together regularly and putting a lot of energy into the tracks night after night. As a result, we hope the album has caught a lot of that dynamism and personality.”

Un Ffordd Mas will be available in Welsh shops from Monday 19th November and available in the rest of the UK on Monday 26th November. It is also possible to purchase the album directly from Sain, or digitally through i-Tunes. The album will be distributed by Sain in Wales and via SRD through the rest of UK.
